Northern Two-lined Salamander   

Eurycea bislineata
 

IDENTIFICATION

 

Size:                  A small sized salamander measuring 2.8 to 4.3 inches in

                           length with a laterally flattened tail.

 

Color:                The dorsum is variable in color ranging from gold to

                            yellowish-brown, with two parallel dark brown or black

                            stripes extending onto the tail with scattered spots

                            in-between. The venter is yellow in color.             

 

Behavior:          Behavior is variable from remaining completely still to

                            quickly fleeing when uncovered.        

 

Habitat:             Streams and seeps throughout the state.
